Zeki Levent Gümrükçü is a Turkish diplomat.

Background

He is a graduate of Ankara Atatürk Anatolian High School and Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of International Relations.

Career

Levent Gümrükçü joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990 and became the deputy chief of staff for Foreign Minister Hikmet Çetin between 1991-1992 and 1992-1993. He also did military service in 1992.

He has held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. later appointed as undersecretary at the United Nations, the Permanent Mission of Turkey in 2006, he was promoted to the first undersecretary. When Turkey sat at the UN Security Council in 2009-2010, he served as political coordinator during the membership. He was Deputy General Director of Political Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2011-2013.

He was Deputy General Director of Information in 2013-2014 and the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was Ambassador to Georgia between 30 January 2014 - 16 November 2017. He was Ambassador to Brussels between 30 November 2017 - 6 January 2020. As of January 2020, he is the General Director of the State Department for the Americas.
