Leland Spencer Prussia' was Chairman of Bank of America from 1981 to 1987. [1]

Early Life

Born in San Jose, California, he graduated from Stanford University and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, returning to Stanford to earn his M.A. in economics in 1956.

He was Bank of America's Chief Financial Officer from 1974 to 1979 and 1984 to 1986; from 1979 to 1981 he was Chief Executive Officer of the World Banking Division. He was also a director of Hughes Aircraft, Hughes Electronics, Nippon Credit Trust Company and the Crowley Maritime Corporation.

A lifelong Democrat, he worked hard on behalf of many causes that he believed in. He was the first chairman of the California board of directors of The Nature Conservancy and a governor of its national organization; a director of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget in Washington, DC; a trustee of the Neighborhood Housing Services of America Foundation; a director of the Santa Fe Institute; and a director of the Saint Francis Foundation of the St. Francis Memorial Hospital of San Francisco.

For 54 years he was married to the late Vivian Blom Prussia.
