Alleged to have leaked documents relating to the PROMIS intelligence software. Found dead in 1991.

Alan David Standorf was a former civilian employee of Vint Hill Farms Station, working on NSA Signals intelligence. Standorf was found dead at a Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Washington Airport in his car in January 1991.[1][2][3][4]

Death

Standorf's estimated death was 3 January 1991 and cause of death was ruled as "blunt force trauma to the back of the head".[5] Standorf's body, with no visible wounds, was found the night of Jan. 28 under clothing and luggage on the back floor of his small car.[6]

The car had been on a short-term parking lot at Metropolitan Washington National Airport since Jan. 4. Police felt certain that Standorf "was killed in an area remote from the airport and transported to airport property,", said David Hess, spokesman for the Metropolitan Washington Airport police.[5]

PROMIS

Standorf was alleged to have leaked classified NSA documents relating to the PROMIS intelligence software (similar to PRISM) to investigative journalist Danny Casolaro. Casolaro was later found dead in a hotel bathtub in August 1991[7][8][9][10].

Standorf's death was covered in 'The Octopus: Secret Government and the Death of Danny Casolaro written by Kenn Thomas and Jim Keith[11]
