The convicted but probable controlled patsy killer of John Lennon.

Mark David Chapman (born 10 May 1955) was convicted for the murder of John Lennon on 8 December 1980. The court found that Chapman fired 5 shots at Lennon outside The Dakota apartment building in New York City, hitting him four times in his back. Jose Sanjenis Perdomo, the doorman of the Dakota and key organiser of Operation 40 spoke to Chapman after the shots were fired, but before the police arrived. Chapman remained at the scene reading J. D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye until the police arrived and arrested him. Chapman repeatedly said that the novel was his statement. Some commentators remain skeptical about this verdict, and point to MK-Ultra.[1]

TV Interview

In a 1992 interview Chapman tells his side of what happened on the day of Lennon's assassination. He stated that "I heard this voice - not an voice, but an inaudible voice - saying over and over, `Do it, do it, do it, do it. I guess that was me inside. And I pulled the .38 revolver out of my pocket, I went into what is called a combat stance, and I fired at his back 5 steady shots." When asked why he shot John Lennon, he stated that "I thought by killing him, I would acquire his fame."
