Mehmet Fatih Ceylan was Turkey's Permanent Representative to NATO from 2013 to 2018. [1]

Education

He graduated from Robert College and Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences in 1979.

Career

In 1979, he started working as a candidate professional officer in the Cyprus Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also had posts as First Secretary at the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad, Consul at the Turkish Consulate General in Deventer (Netherlands), and Consul General at the Turkish Consulate General in Dusseldorf (Germany).

Right before and after the end of the Cold War he was the First Secretary at NATO Military Affairs Department from 1988 until 1990, and First Secretary and Counsellor at Turkish Permanent Mission to NATO from 1990 to 1995. He was Deputy Permanent Representative at WEU and EU in charge of security and defense matters from 2000 until 2002. He was Deputy Director General at the NATO Department from 2004 until 2006, and Head of the NATO Department from 2002 until 2004.[1] He also at some time was Head of Department for Human Resources.

He was Ambassador to the Sudan between 2006 and 2009. He was General Directorate of Bilateral Political Affairs in 2009-2010, covering relations with Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asian countries.[1]

In 2009, he was appointed deputy secretary general to NATO,[2] and in 2010, he also served as Turkey's Special Representative to Kyrgyzstan.[3] From 2013 until 2018 he was Permanent Representative to NATO.

He retired from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs after almost forty years in 2019.[4]
