In 2023, the governments of the region signed agreements letting the US Military build or gain access to almost 40 bases in the region. The expansion in Norway started in 2015 with "rotational" troops[1], expanding in 2022 to 4 bases with " unrestricted military access".[2]. All the others were agreed upon in 2023; Sweden agreed to 17 bases[3], Finland to 15[4], Denmark to 3[5] (not including Greenland)

In addtion, the Uk military built 1 base in Norway.[6]

The Nordic countries, or the Nordics,[7] are a geographical and cultural region in Northern Europe and the North Atlantic, where they are most commonly known as Norden (literally "the North"). The region includes the sovereign states of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, as well as the autonomous countries of the Faroe Islands and Greenland, which are both part of the Kingdom of Denmark. The Åland Islands, an autonomous region of the Republic of Finland; Jan Mayen island and the archipelago of Svalbard, both unincorporated areas of Metropolitan Norway, are also included.[8]
