Thornton was born in Charleston, South Carolina into an African American family.
In February 1991, Thornton moved to Germany where her sister lived with her US Army husband.
In 1994, she joined American rapper Lane McCray to form the musical duo La Bouche, which is French for "The Mouth". La Bouche went on to become one of the biggest Eurodance groups of the 1990s, achieving many hit songs.

Death
Thornton was in the middle of touring when she was involved in the air crash. She had just given her final performance in Leipzig and immediately got on Crossair Flight 3597 for the flight from Berlin to Zürich for upcoming media appearances to promote her new single "Wonderful Dream (Holidays Are Coming)" (a Christmas ballad recorded for a German Coca-Cola TV commercial).
The plane crashed on approach to Zurich. She was killed along with most other passengers.[1]
After her tour performing in Germany she planned fly back to the United States on 24 December to spend Christmas with her family with Atlanta.
