Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) is a left-wing activist organisation in the United States which focuses on the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.

JVP's mission statement describes itself as "a diverse and democratic community of activists inspired by Jewish tradition to work together for peace, social justice, and human rights to support the aspirations of Israelis and Palestinians for security and self-determination" and says it "seeks an end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem".[1]

Jews for BDS

In May 2021, JVP wrote:

In light of this week's horrific violence exposing Israeli apartheid, we urge all Jewish people to join us in endorsing the Palestinian call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS). The Israeli government claims that the oppression of Palestinians is necessary for Jewish people to be safe. We know this is a lie, and that true safety can be found only through solidarity. Instead of false security for some, gained through violence, we envision a just world where all people are safe—and we won't allow this violence to happen in our name.

Pledge

As Jewish people from all backgrounds and walks of life, we wholeheartedly endorse the Palestinian call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions. Crafted by Palestinian civil society groups in 2006, it has been the main call from Palestinians to the international community. The call urges us to apply the same nonviolent pressure used to end South African Apartheid to Israel, until the Israeli government complies with international law by meeting three demands:

  • ending its occupation and colonisation of all Arab lands occupied in June 1967, and dismantling the Wall;
  • recognising the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and
  • respecting, protecting, and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN Resolution 194.

This call for basic rights and freedom is in line with the highest ethical teachings in our texts and traditions. By signing this pledge, we are calling on everything within Jewish tradition that values life, all life, above all else. In the long and varied history of Jewish experience, we lift up and are inspired by those who have resisted imperialism, called out injustice, and fought for freedom—and we continue their struggle.

The Israeli government says that the Jewish future belongs to those who dominate, who bomb civilians, who throw people out of their homes. Today, we say that our Jewish past, present and future belongs to those of us who are fighting for the wellbeing of all people, in all places. By signing this pledge, we commit ourselves to to engaging our communities, our organisations, our synagogues, and our families in joining us, to finally end apartheid in Palestine and Israel.[2]
