Martin Knuchel is Senior Director and Head of Crisis, Emergency & Business Continuity Management, for Swiss International Air Lines (a part of Lufthansa Group Airlines), since 2020 also responsible for pandemic coordination[1]. He is a participant in the notorious Event 201.
Given his position, he might possibly have been responsible for the crisis management after the crash of Germanwings Flight 9525, which officially was determined to be caused deliberately by the co-pilot.
Activities
"Mr. Knuchel is responsible for emergency operations with partner airlines and is the leader of the Swiss International Air Lines crisis team. He directs emergency training for staff worldwide, and he is responsible for interfacing with national and international organizations, including the Swiss foreign ministry, the Swiss health ministry, and embassies and authorities in various countries."[2]
At the time Swissair folded in 2011, he had been with the company for almost six years. The lawyer had previously worked at a Japanese bank in Zurich.[3]
At Swiss, Martin Knuchel is responsible for the crisis plan. "Our crisis team is fully operational in a maximum of 90 minutes," says Swiss spokeswoman Sonja Ptassek. In total, Swiss names eight measures that follow an accident, from monitoring Twitter to activating the emergency hotline.
