She was formerly Regional Director of East Midlands Labour Party,[4] and was PPC for the Sherwood constituency in the 2010 General Election.[5]
Emilie Oldknow married Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Jonathan Ashworth in July 2010.[6]

On 13 April 2020, Diane Abbott tweeted:
- "So is Emilie Oldknow seriously going to be @Keir_Starmer pick for @UKLabour General Secretary? Surely she should never be employed by the Labour Party in any capacity ever again?"[8]
