Alibaba was founded by Jack Ma, a ambitious Chinese millionaire, a self made millionaire. The name comes the Middle Eastern folk-tale collection One Thousand and One Nights.[1]
In 1999, The Wallenberg Family gave Jack Ma - operating the site from his apartment in Hangzhou 25 million US Dollars though their firm Investor AB. After Goldman Sachs and Softbank also invested in Ma's company, Alibaba became profitable 3 years after launch.
