A fall guy, set up to take the blame for the wrong doing of others. |
A patsy is a person set up to take the blame for actions which s/he did not (knowingly) commit.
The term is mainly applied to individuals (occasionally groups) who feature in Official Narrative's as the perpetrator(s) (often as "Lone nut" gunmen) in crimes with a deep political significance; and where there is compelling evidence that they are either totally innocent or have been engineered/provoked (wittingly or unwittingly) into action as part of a conspiracy. Examples from UK history are The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 [1] [2] and the Walsall bomb plot of 1890. [3] [4] [5]
