German businessman with interests in Asia, as was the subjects of the 1956 Bilderberg

Rolf Heyn was a West German businessman who had family business connections in China and East Asia, and was chairman of the Ostasiatische Verein (OAV) – the German Asia-Pacific Business Association.

Given his interests and experience in the region, he was a natural fit with the subjects of the 1956 Bilderberg, which were dominated by Asian questions "A common approach by the Western world towards China", "How the West can best meet Asian requirements in the technical and economic fields", etc. By 1956, West Germany had (re)started its world wide trading networks, and were hungry for business with Asia, even with the Communist People's Republic of China, which was under an US embargo.

From around year 1900, the trading company Heyn, Bröckelmann & Co did trade with Japan and China. The company wound down in 1986.[1]

A Rolf Heyn is mentioned as Chairman of the Ostasiatische Verein (OAV) – German Asia-Pacific Business Association.[2] "On the 8th August 1952, OAV chairman Rolf Heyn met with CNIEC manager Liu Shu-teh in East Berlin. The conversation paved the way for a semi-official meeting between Hans Kroll, the Federal Government’s General Advisor for East-West Trade in the Federal Ministry of Economics, and Shi Chih-ang, the new head of the Berlin office of the CNIEC, on 13th October 1952 in East Berlin."[3]

A Rolf Heyn went by ship from Bremen to New York in 1937[4], maybe on the way to Asia.
