Lawrence Litchfield Jr. was a geologist who was head of aluminum producer Alcoa 1960-1965. He developed mines in Dutch Surinam.[1][2][3]
Education
Litchfield graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, served for a while at sea. He was educated in the United States, Switzerland, and Germany, and had a degree in mining engineering from Harvard University.
Career
He rose steadily through the ranks of Alcoa, working there for 40 years, eventually becoming president in 1960 and chairman of the board in 1963.[4]
He also held many civic positions and was involved with various charitable and arts-related organizations.[4]
