The Swaledale Mutton Company is a suspected British intelligence front, that through its numerous accounts is trolling Twitter (X) accounts of dissidents, reporting them en masse for spurious alleged rule infringement attempting to get them suspended or banned.[1][2][3]
They accounts are art of the disinformation arm of the British Army, the 77th Brigade.[4]
Overview
The "mutton crew" accounts, so called because they frequently have the Swaledale Mutton account, run by Graham Bottley, listed at the top of their follower list on the 'X', are treated differently in some way by Elon Musk's platform. In these accounts, the Swaledale Mutton account is listed at the top of their follower list on the 'X' platform, unlike the standard organization in chronological order, with the most recent follower listed at the top. [5]
Iain Davis points out that the "Mutton crew tactics are pretty basic but effective nonetheless, presumably, because Musk’s 'X' platform is complicit. They try to provoke people into making aggressive and potentially abusive posts by first making the same kind of posts themselves. They then report the anything they can vaguely construe as abusive or 'hate speech'.[5]
