Kate Elizabeth Forbes is a Scottish politician and accountant who has been the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and the Economy since 2020. A member of the Scottish National Party (SNP), she has been the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch constituency since 2016.[1]

On 20 February 2023, Kate Forbes declared her candidacy for Leader of the SNP and First Minister of Scotland to succeed Nicola Sturgeon in the 2023 Scottish National Party leadership election.[2]

On 27 March 2023, Humza Yousaf was declared the winner of the SNP leadership election with Kate Forbes coming a close second, which prompted calls for First Minister Yousaf to appoint Forbes as Deputy First Minister.[3]
