Pussy Riot is a Russian protest group founded in August 2011. The group received global publicity by the commercially-controlled media when five members of the group staged a performance inside Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour on February 21, 2012.[1]

Pussy Riot is connected to the VOINA Art Group (2006 - 2013), whose performance art included:[2][3][4]
- staging of a public porn scene at the Timiryazev Museum in Moscow
- the staged hanging of an immigrant and a homosexual in a supermarket
- the painting of a male phallus on a St. Petersburg Bridge
