It was founded in the late 1880s and is now part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The majority of NIH facilities are located in Bethesda, Maryland and other nearby suburbs of the Washington metropolitan area, with other primary facilities in North Carolina and smaller satellite facilities located around the United States.
Call for censorship
In November 2021, NIH Director Francis Collins stated the country had "an epidemic of misinformation and disinformation. And it’s fueling a dangerous distrust in science." He suggested 2 solutions:
- The first: Identify those who are purposefully spreading false information online and bring them to justice.
- The second: Find a better way to counter false claims with real information. He didn’t specify what exactly either one would entail.[1]
