Career
Lars-Eric Petersson assumed the position of CEO of Skandia in 1996, at a time of significant expansion for the company. In 1999, the business journal Veckans Affärer named Lars-Eric Petersson CEO of the year, and Dagens Industri stated that "Lars-Eric Petersson will never end up in rough weather due to poor judgment".[1]
Petersson ended up in rough weather after he provided his two sons with apartments and the big bonuses he and the board were awarded.[2] As a result of his machinations, several different bonus programs gave a hundred managers close to SEK 4 billion in bonuses. of these, SEK 185 million was overpaid to senior Skandia executives as bonuses. Petersson also took out SEK 37 million more in pension than the board approved.[1]
In 2003, Lars-Eric Petersson was charged with financial fraud.[3] In 2006, he was sentenced to two years in prison but was freed.[4]
