Kentucky is a US state.
"The Company" drug smuggling
Kentucky was part of the CIA's network of drug smuggling to support covert operations, similar to what happened in Arkansas. The activities were partially exposed in 1985 when former policeman Andrew Thornton fell from the sky with a bad parachute strapped to his back, and $75 million dollars of cocaine strapped to his body.[1]
Thornton was part of a domestic drug trafficking operation, one which would ultimately connect him back to an operation known as "The Company", which was tied to the Chagra Brothers. Jamiel Chagra was one of the largest drug traffickers in the Western United States. Chagra and Thornton's drug network would led to large-scale corruption within the DEA, Kentucky law enforcement, and the Kentucky Governor.[2]
Sally Denton's book, The Bluegrass Conspiracy documented rumors of other connections, such as that it was helping support the United States' covert operations in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and South Africa. Ralph Ross, the Lexington Officer investigating the case, became convinced that Thornton was involved in Oliver North's Iran-Contra network, which provided support to him through both CIA and DEA resources.[1]
The corruption touched governor John Y. Brown Jr's circle of friends and business and political associates, but the investigation was closed.
