John M. Simon was Managing Director of British Leyland when he attended the 1973 Bilderberg meeting.
Career
Simon, a former joint managing director of Dunlop Holdings, joined British Leyland International on December 1, 1972 as managing director. He took on a role carried out by John Barber, a deputy managing director of British Leyland and director of finance and planning.[1] By this period, "Weak management, continuous industrial strife, inflation, the oil crisis and a flood of cheap Japanese imports had all combined to bring the car giant close to financial collapse." In 1975, he and Barber were the two most senior casualties of the Ryder Report on British Leyland and the company’s subsequent reorganization, and were dismissed.[2][3]
Simon was a Fellow of the British Institute of Management. He was a Founder Member of the Confederation of British Industry Overseas Committee, Chairman of Regentarest plc; Partner of Quadrant Associates Ltd. [4]
