Ignacio Camuñas Solís is a Spanish liberal politician and editor. He attended Bilderberg/1980 when chairman of the Joint Spanish Cortes-European Parliament Committee.

Education

He graduated in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid and in Comparative Law from the University of Strasbourg.

Career

During the democratic transition in Spain, he participated in the creation of the liberal party Union of the Democratic Center (UCD) in 1977.

He was deputy in the Cortes of the UCD since 1977. He became minister of Relations with the Cortes, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the lower house, and chairman of the Joint Committee Spanish Cortes-European Parliament.

In 1980, at the twenty-eighth meeting of the Bilderberg Club, held in Bad Aachen, West Germany, on April 18, 19 and 20, he was the only Spanish representative present.

He has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Liberal International and Vice-president of the aforementioned organization.

He was secretary general of the Spanish Commission of UNESCO and advisor to the Director General of the organization. He has also been part of the Spanish Delegation to the United Nations (UN) on various occasions.

He was president of the Spanish Association of Foundations; he held the chair at the Civil Society Forum (Foro de la Sociedad Civil).

He was director and CEO of the Guadiana de Publicaciones editorial group, editor of the monthly magazine Gentleman.

On January 16, 2014 he presented a new political party, VOX, together with other former members of the UCD and the Partido Popular(PP). He was subsequently elected vice-president of VOX; however, in September of the same year he announced that he was leaving his activities.[1][2][3]

In 2018 he expressed his disagreement with the extremely aggressive policy of confrontation developed by the Pablo Casado Partido Popular government towards the PSOE since, in his analysis, the gravity of the situation created in Spain by Catalan secessionism made it inescapable to "rescue" the PSOE in order to achieve an entente of constitutional parties.[4]
