Fearporn is reporting that deliberately and enticingly plays on people's fears about disaster, disease, and death; people can become addicted to consuming it after a while. It was widely deployed by commercially-controlled media and the term was popularised during the COVID-19 Event.

- Stranger Than Fiction News - makes videos with the underlying theme "they are about to get to you", "they will kill you", "we are doomed" [8][9][10]
