---|---|
Dr. H. Wayne Carver II, the former Connecticut chief medical examiner whose office examined the bodies of victims of Sandy Hook.[1] | |
A coroner is a government or judicial official who is empowered to conduct or order an inquest into the manner or cause of death. The official may also investigate or confirm the identity of an unknown person who has been found dead within the coroner's jurisdiction.
Concerns
A coroner is able to cover up suspicious deaths and murder if the office holder is corrupt and/or can be manipulated.
Examples
- Paul Knapman was Her Majesty's coroner for Westminster (and Inner West London), from 1980 to 2011. His responsibility for investigating sudden deaths as an independent judicial officer saw him preside over numerous notable cases.[2]
