Ambassadors to Italy |
Ambassadors to Italy are the highest diplomatic representatives to Italy.
There is 224 resident embassies in Rome, 138 for Italy and 86 for the Holy See.[1]
Overview
For many countries a bit away from Italy, the ambassador post in Rome is seen as a reward position, often coming as the last post before retirement.
The exception is the United States, where the ambassadors during the Cold War were deep state actors, keeping control over Italy.
