Not to be confused with the German politician Hanns Seidel.

Hans Seidel was an Austrian economist[1] who attended the 1981 Bilderberg meeting.

Education

Hans Seidel studied at the University of World Trade in Vienna. He received a Fulbright scholarship to the United States.[2]

Career

From 1946 to 1980 Hans Seidel worked at the Austrian Institute for Economic Research (WIFO). At first he was scientific advisor from 1946, scientific editor and coordinator from 1947, deputy head from 1962 and head of the institute from 1973 to 1980. Seidel was subsequently associated with WIFO as a consultant and received honorary membership in 2006.[3] In 1957, Seidel completed a study visit to the International Monetary Fund in Washington.

From 1981 to 1983, Seidel was State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance, from 1984 to 1990 head of the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS), from 1985 to 1989 he was the Austrian representative on the Economic Policy Committee of the OECD, from 1986 to 1989 Chairman of the Economic Committee of EFTA. Hans Seidel was also an honorary professor at the University of Vienna.[4]

In his works on empirical economic research, he dealt with the topics of economic cycle research, regional research, industrial policy, financial policy and economic history.

He spoke in 1981 to the US Senate.[5]
