Information operations, also known as influence operations or IO, are campaigns in the field of and information warfare, dedicated to obtaining a decisive advantage in the information environment,[1] which includes social media. It includes the collection of tactical information about an adversary as well as the dissemination of propaganda in pursuit of a competitive advantage over an opponent.[2]
Information operations can be directed against domestic audiences as well.[3][4][5][6][7]
“In the battle of perception management, where the enemy is clearly using the media to help manage perceptions of the general public, our job is not perception management but to counter the enemy's perception management,”
Lawrence Di Rita (December 2004) [8]
"Cyberwarfare"
IO has strong overlap with "Cyberwarfare".
