The Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products (Swissmedic) is the national drug regulator of Switzerland. It gave express approval[citation needed] to the COVID-19 vaccines in December 2020.
Big Pharma conflict of interest
Its Human Medicines Expert Committee (HMEC) made a decisive contribution to Swissmedic's approval of the Pfizer gene injection.[1] Numerous members of the Committee (HMEC) has worked for pharmaceutical companies. Three members have even received grants from Pfizer.
Stephan Krähenbühl has been the chairman of the expert group since 2002. He is currently a research group leader at the University Hospital Basel. He has received grants from the pharmaceutical industry for research projects amounting to 1.5 million francs since 2000, including from AstraZeneca, Braun, Novartis, Roche, RCC and Lonza. Noticably, he chose not to add these to his conflict-of-interest declaration[2].
Besides Krähenbühl the HMEC counts eight other ordinary and thirty-nine extraordinary members[3]. It is teeming with conflicts of interest with the pharmaceutical industry. For example there is Jörg Leuppi. He is an associate member of the HMEC, chief physician of the medical university clinic of the Baselland Cantonal Hospital and a specialist in pulmonology. The pharmaceutical companies he currently advises include: AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH, GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi and Vifor.
Pfizer
The US pharmaceutical company Pfizer, whose “vaccine” was recommended by the HMEC, has paid several members directly or indirectly in recent years, including the extraordinary HMEC members Burkhard Möller, Christoph Schmid and Johannes Wildhaber-Brooks.
Möller is a specialist in internal medicine and rheumatology and director and deputy chief physician at the University Clinic for Rheumatology, Immunology and Allergology at Inselspital Bern.
Wildhaber-Brooks is the head physician for pediatrics at the Fribourg Cantonal Hospital. According to his own statements, he has already received grants for “training events” for Pfizer, and from the companies Biotest, HIPP, Weleda, Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, Vifor, Sanofi, Allergopharma and Merck.
The HMEC also has members who work for the World Health Organization (WHO), an organization that is largely funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and GAVI, the vaccination alliance. Dina Pfeifer currently works for the WHO regional office in Denmark and is an associate member of the HMEC.
