Yevgeny Zinichev was the Emergencies Minister of Russia during COVID-19. He fell off a cliff in September 2021 and died.[1]
Death
He died in an accident during an Arctic civil defence exercise.
The ministry said Zinichev had died in Norilsk while trying to save someone's life. The head of Russian broadcaster RT, Margarita Simonyan, said a cameraman had fallen off a cliff during an interview. "He and the cameraman were on the edge of a cliff. The editor-in-chief of Russia’s state-funded RT television station, Margarita Simoyan, reported that the minister had died been standing on a ledge with a cameraman who slipped and fell into some water.
“There were plenty of witnesses - no one even had time to think about what had happened as Zinichev threw himself into the water for the fallen person and crashed into a protruding rock,” Ms Simonyan tweeted.[2]
He and the cameraman, Alexander Melnik were both pronounced dead.[3]
