Robert A. Wieckowski is an American attorney and politician who currently serves in the California State Senate. A Democrat, he represents the 10th Senate District, which encompasses the central and southern portions of the East Bay and South Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Biography
Wieckowski was first elected to the California State Assembly in 2010. Before being elected to the Legislature, he served as Vice-Mayor and a City Councilman in Fremont.
Wieckowski served as chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee. He was also a member of the Assembly Insurance, Health, and Public Employees, Retirement and Social Security committees.
In his first term in office, Wieckowski passed 24 bills through the Legislature, 21 of which were signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown, including to help corporation do biotechnology research.
He helped pass California Senate Bill 277 (SB277') is a California law that removed personal belief as a reason for an exemption from the vaccination requirements for entry to private or public elementary or secondary schools in California, as well as day care centers. The final version of the bill was enacted by the California Legislatureand signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown on June 30, 2015.[1]
