Mr Childs was a volunteer in the ambulance corps in WW1 before he served, as a U.S. Army officer, as Chief of the Cipher Dept. at AEF Headquarters in France. He studied cryptoanalysis under Mr. William Friedman at the Riverbank Laboratory in Illinois. As a Foreign Service Officer, he served in Jerusalem and Cairo, and was U.S.Ambassador to Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia. He is the author of a number of books and articles.
