Born in the Netherlands in the 60s. Learned English from the BBC worldservice when it was still good when a fair amount of listening between the lines applied. The "Narrative", when carefully observed almost never fit, not even in the pre internet 70s, 80s and 90s. Got vindicated when:

• seen the austere poverty in Tjernobyl as a place with special economic privileges,
• the weird explanations for the atrocities in Yugoslavia, while touristic and cordial before and
• Syria that I visited in 2006 and 2009, a place with very low crime rates.
