Olli Kivinen was a Finnish journalist best remembered for his columns. He worked at Helsingin Sanomat from 1960 to 2004, but continued as a columnist for the magazine even after his retirement. Kivinen's columns usually dealt with international issues. He supported Finland's accession to the European Union, and in his last columns he also spoke in favor of NATO membership.[1]
Kivinen started his career in Helsingin Sanomat as a student in the summer of 1960. He worked as editor from 1962 to 1964, London correspondent for 1964-1970, foreign news editor from 1970 to 1975 and supervisor from 1975 to 1993 and as a columnist and editorial page columnist and editorial journalist since 1993. Kivinen also served as The Times' Helsinki correspondent in 1962–1964 and 1970–1996, and as The Independent's Helsinki correspondent in 1988–1989.
Olli Kivinen's father was Lauri Kivinen, the director of Veitsiluoto Oy. His uncle was journalist and author Ilmari Kivinen.
