Axel Iveroth was head of the Swedish Industrial Association 1957-1977 and worked to modernize the business community's influence and propaganda organizations.

Career

As a recent graduate of the Stockholm School of Economics, and because of his contact in media (briefly a radio program manager at public radio), Iveroth was recruited as a researcher at the think tank Research Institute of Industrial Economics (IUI), founded by several Swedish business associations, when it was established in 1939.

In 1944, he left the IUI to become an industrial attaché in Washington DC. While in Washington, Iveroth came into contact with the Committee for Economic Development (CED)

Back in Sweden, Iveroth an his associets wanted to create a Swedish equivalent to the CED with prominent members of the business community, and co-founded the organization Studieförbundet Näringsliv og Samhälle (SNS) in 1948, a network of opinion makers and decision makers in the private and public sectors. Through research, book publishing and private conferences, SNS wants to contribute to debate and rational (ie pro-capital) decisions on social issues.[1]

Iveroth later became leader of the Swedish Industry Association during the twenty year period 1957 to 1977.

Politically, Axel Iveroth was ultra-liberal, in contrast to the Social Democrat mood in the country.[2]

SNS Tylösand Summit

Axel Iveroth was one of the original 1948 founders of this yearly conference, which discusses many of the same subjects as the Bilderberg conference and may be the official or unofficial local Swedish branch of it.

The SNS Tylösand Summit brings together about 200 chief executive officers, leading academic scholars, politicians from the government and the parliamentary opposition, top civil servants, and union leaders. SNS has arranged this annual summit in the seaside resort of Tylösand since 1948. The invitation-only, one-day-long conference is an important meeting platform for discussions about key issues facing today’s society. The meeting is held under the Chatham House Rules and is not open to the media.[3]
