The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is the major federal agency responsible for funding health and medical research in Canada.

CIHR supports more than 13,000 researchers and trainees through grants, fellowships, scholarships, and other funding. CIHR was created by an Act of Parliament on June 7, 2000, bringing together existing government activities. CIHR's annual budget is approximately $1 billion. [1]
CIHR combined with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council forms the major source of federal government funding to post-secondary research.[2]
Shaping psychological and behavioral response
CIHR spent at least $500,000[3] "to undertake a cross-country comparative rapid research on the role of communication strategies and media discourse in shaping psychological and behavioral response to the COVID-19 outbreak".[4]
