The University of California, Davis (UC Davis, UCD, or Davis) is a public land-grant research university near Davis, California.[1] Named a Public Ivy,[2] it is the northernmost of the ten campuses of the University of California system. The institution was first founded as an agricultural branch of the system in 1905 and became the seventh campus of the University of California in 1959.

After police Lt. John Pike used pepper spray on the eyes of students at the University of California Davis, the University of California Regents were ordered to pay $1,000,000 to the 21 victims of the attack, plus compensation for Lt. Pike's "psychiatric injury". He had been on paid leave for the duration of the 8 month enquiry.[3]
