Official narrative
Wikipedia reports that "an estimated roughly 4% (155,600 people) of the country's population are being enslaved against their will, especially enemies of the government."
Slavery
Mauritania was the last nation state in the world to abolish formal slavery. It nominally abolished the practice in 1981, but until 2007 it remained legal to own slaves.
