Career
Jarl Köhler joined Finnpap as a salesman in the mid-1950s, moving to Cairo in the early 1960s as Finnpap's representative. In the late 1960s, he moved from Cairo to become Finnpap's Sales Director in London. In 1971, he became managing director of the London unit. In 1979, he returned to Finland as CEO of Finnboard, a post he held until 1990. He was CEO of the Confederation of Finnish Forest Industries in 1990–1996.
In the early 1990s, the forest industry's mountain counsellors wanted Köhler to lead a Finnish advocacy organisation for the internationalisation forest industry. He was seen as fit for the job due to his long international career.
