Hi Robin, does the quote mark rule also apply to the COVID-19 plastic terms such as ""Safe and Effective" and the https://wikispooks.com/wiki/COVID-19/Media_Manipulation examples. I remember making the point of no quotes only to reach no consensuses at that point. --[[User:Jun|Jun]] ([[User talk:Jun|talk]]) 15:06, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

:The quote mark rule was originally thought up to work with {{t|{{!}}<nowiki>so_called=1</nowiki>}}, not for actual quotes. We could make a {{t|{{!}}<nowiki>speech=1</nowiki>}} option to differentiate actual quotes, which would score for semantic accuracy. Using {{t|{{!}}<nowiki>so_called=1</nowiki>}} for those pages and stripping the quotes is the low effort option, which follows existing policy. Does it have any unwanted side effects? -- [[User:Robin|Robin]] ([[User talk:Robin|talk]]) 19:02, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi user:Robin, does the quote mark rule also apply to the COVID-19 plastic terms such as "Safe and Effective" and the https://wikispooks.com/wiki/COVID-19/Media_ManipulationMedia Manipulation[1] examples. I remember making the point of no quotes only to reach no consensuses at that point. --Jun (talk) 15:06, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

The quote mark rule was originally thought up to work with |so_called=1, not for actual quotes. We could make a |speech=1 option to differentiate actual quotes, which would score for semantic accuracy. However, I'm inclined to follow Occam's Razor in order to manage SMW complexity, which I interpret as "never make more params than you need". Using |so_called=1 for those pages and stripping the quotes is the low effort option, which follows existing policy. Does it have any unwanted side effects? -- Robin (talk) 19:02, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
  1. The less the site name is used, the better, in case it one day gets ported elsewhere
