Description | tabletop exercise on cyber security of the financial system |
Own words
Every year, the training brings together a wide range of global businesses and government structures while the live stream gathers millions of spectators from across the world.
In 2021, a simulated cyber attack on the global financial system leads to an apocalyptic outcome: “a single vulnerable link is enough to bring down the entire system, just like the domino effect.”[1] This "single link" is not specified, but farces like the so called SolarWinds Hack and the spurious log4j hole might be real world examples.
Proposed "solution"
While Cyber Polygon seems to be occupied with "training"[2] the associated report International Strategy to Better Protect the Financial System Against Cyber Threats[3] engages in fearmongering and dramatic publicity with little to no technical expertise, which is no hindrance for bold suggestions:
- merging of Wall Street banks, their regulators and intelligence agencies (!)[citation needed]
- tightening censorship of social media
- tightening control of online businesses
- "Central banks around the globe are considering throwing their weight behind digital currencies", the report warns that: "trust" could be lost and "derail such innovations" (read: other crypto currencies must be controlled)
- Prophecy: "But one thing is clear: it is not a question of if a major incident will happen, but when."
The major talking point, however, is "stakeholder" control. Stakeholders are self-proclaimed leaders, wise guys, superiors, who rule just because they think they have the "better ideas" — nothing else. In other words, people with a full blown narcissistic personality disorder and a delusion of grandiosity.
