The Rockefeller drug laws were part of the "war on drugs". They increased the legal penalties for possession and dealing of recreational drugs, and introduced mandatory minimum sentencing. These have seen non-violent drug dealers convicted for as long as 55 years without the possibility of parole.[1][2]
