In 2005 while researching the papers of John Charles Cutler, a physician involved in the Tuskegee syphilis experiment, Reverby uncovered documents which exposed the National Institutes of Health's 1940s Guatemala syphilis experiment in which Guatemalan prisoners, soldiers, orphaned children, and others were deliberately infected with syphilis and other sexually-transmitted diseases.[1]
