Nelu Iordache is a businessman who has been "accused of corrupt practices and money laundering, according to De Telegraaf"[1]. He was photographed on New Year's Eve enjoying a family meal with Petru Pitcovici and Dutch ambassador Stella Ronner-Grubačić.
Career
Iordache owns the group Romstrade group, which is a part of the Blue Air [2], the largest Romanian airline by scheduled passengers flown.
He became an entrepreneur in 1994, three years after the completion of the Physics Faculty in Bucharest, and he developed his business around his family land in Adunatii Copăceni. He built his private business empire on access to public funds.
In February 2010, he announced that he intended to start construction of the first low-cost private airport in Copaceni Adunate in an area of 200 hectares in the year [2011], with the investment of 150-200 million euros.
Corruption charges
On November 30th 2012 the Direcția Națională Anticorupție (DNA) charged him with money laundering.[3] On November 1, 2016, Nelu Iordache he was charged by the DNA for corruption. The DNA allege that together with Cristian Mihai Buciu and Gheorghe Răcaru, he undertook a financial fraud of over 3 million euros against National Company Posta SA.[4]The reason for his arrest was that he bought a Boeing aircraft for his company Blue Air with funds the Romanian government had advanced for a highway project.[5]
