Enrique Ricardo Lewandowski is a Brazilian judge and politician. He was a judge on the Supreme Court from 2006 to 2023, having presided over the court between 2014 and 2016. He also was president of the Federal Senate for the purposes of the impeachment process of President Dilma Rousseff in 2016.[1] He was given the job of Minister of Justice and Public Security in 2024.
Activities
Judge Lewandowski ruled to free the politician Lula da Silva from jail in 2021. In 2024, President Lula da Silva appointed Lewandowski as Minister of Justice.[2]
In December 2020, supreme court judge Ricardo Lewandowski spoke in favor of mandatory jabs, but against the possibility that people will be physically forced to be injected. For the judge, the state can only impose sanctions on those who do not get jabbed through indirect measures such as preventing the "unimmunized" from exercising certain activities or attending certain places. He also decided that these indirect measures will not be exclusive to the federal government — that is, states and municipalities will also be able to introduce sanctions against those who refuse to be jabbed.[3]
In February 2025, Minister of Justice Lewandowski, determined a 100-year secrecy on his own vaccination card, citing the protection of sensitive personal data under the General Law on the Protection of Personal Data.[4] After exposure, he released his card, showing that he took six doses between 2021 and March 2024.[5]
