Occultism, various theories and practices involving a belief in and knowledge or use of supernatural forces or beings. The word derives from occult, itself adopted from the Latin word occultus, meaning "hidden" or "secret."[1] Occult rituals and symbols are common in freemasonry, but also in a number of other secret societies and cults.

Occult symbolism
There are a number of actions that can be interpreted as occult symbols, often are hidden in plain sight. Hidden symbolism is rife in freemasonry, but also in satanism, occult Judaism such as Kabbalah, Islamic occultism, and cults.
Purpose
Public display of occult symbols can be part of an initiation ritual in secret societies.
They also signal to other initiates the power and reach of the initiates, and to mock the uninitiated.
Symbols imparts a hidden, different meaning to actions.
Revelation of the method, the theory that a group of "controllers of society" must show the public their plans through books, publications, movies and news releases, for occult purposes; a process where they actually reveal their methods of control, knowing that a properly conditioned population will remain passive even when confronted with evidence of their own manipulation. The revelation itself then becomes part of the control mechanism.
