The Superior Mayor of Bogotá (Spanish: alcalde mayor de Bogotá D.C.) is the highest administrative authority of the Special District of Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, and the head of the executive branch of the local government of Bogotá.
History
From 1909, the mayor was appointed by the governor of the department of Cundinamarca.[1]
In 1954, the Special District of Bogotá was created, and the mayor appointed directly by the President of the Republic.
Since 1988, the mayor is elected by popular vote for a period of 4 years, without the possibility of immediate re-election.[2]
