Loring W. Knoblauch was CEO of Underwriters Laboratories Inc., a Chicago-based "independent" not-for-profit operation that tests more than 18,000 types of products annually.[1][2]

Knoblauch said that jet fuel fires were not "reasonably foreseeable"; he resigned suddenly in August 2004 after UL performed tests of WTC floor models where floors did not collapse and were barely affected.[3]
