Joseph Patrick Kennedy Sr. was a prominent American businessman, investor and politician. He is known for his own political prominence as well as that of his children and was the patriarch of the Irish-American Kennedy family.

Activities

Kennedy made his fortune in the 1920 by what later would be illegal as insider trading. There has been persistent suggestions that he also was behind extensive smuggling of alcohol during the Prohibition era.[1]

Kennedy corresponded regularly with Nancy Astor.[2]
