Own words
Joost Knevel said he was a victim of satanic ritual abuse in the small Dutch village of Bodegraven. He made several attempts to file a complaint. His complaint was never accepted.[3]
2021 arrest
In August 2021, "Joost Knevel, the third ringleader of a group of conspiracy theorists making wild claims about the western Dutch town of Bodegraven", was arrested in Spain. Together with Micha Kat and Wouter Raatgever, the trio made repeated posts on social media claiming that there was a network of people who abused and killed children. Knevel was one of those victims. The name of the then Mayor Christiaan van der Kamp was mentioned, as well as then prime minister Mark Rutte and Jaap van Dissel (National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, made famous during Covid).[4]
He has been living in Spain with his wife and children and, until Thursday, had evaded authorities. He was wanted in the Netherlands on charges of inciting violence. Knevel, who was born in Bodegraven, claims to have recovered memories of witnessing children being murdered in the town and of being sexually abused by van Dissel.[5]
In 2022 "conspiracy theorist Micha Kat" was extradited from Ireland.[6] In 2023, he was convicted to over 2 years in prison for sedition. Kat was accused of calling for a violent uprising against law enforcement and the legal system, and also the newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, and the municipality of Bodegraven. He referred to judges as "targets," in one example.[7]
The three were earlier ordered to pay €215,000 in damages to Bodegraven local council.[6]
Conviction
Knevel was given fifteen months in prison by the judge, four of which were suspended. He might still have to sit it out if he were to post "wrong messages" on social media again.[4]
