Not to be confused with Johan Andresen, his son, also a Bilderberger.

Johan Henrik Andresen Sr was a Norwegian businessman who attended a Bilderberg in 1985.

Background

Johan Andresen Sr was the fourth generation of a Norwegian tobacco dynasty (confusingly all with the same name, as is his son), and one of the country's richest families. His father died in 1953.[1] Andersen was awarded a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1955. In addition to his studies, he obtained an internship with American tobacco suppliers.

Overview

After returning to Norway, he worked in various departments in the family tobacco factory to acquire practical knowledge and skills. Andresen Sr carried on the traditional family company Tiedemann further, by giving it more weight and financial impact. He also spread the family fortune to other ventures, like salmon breeding, a lucrative investment.

After his father's death Andersen Sr became the owner of the Tiedemann group. His son Johan Henrik Andresen Jr (1961–) was in turn gradually made the owner, and in 1998 was took over as CEO.

Andresen Sr also sat on board positions in external companies and organizations. He was a member of the Norwegian Board of Industry's main board in 1960–77 and its working committee 1963–66.

Andersen Sr was a so-called 'defense friend', and assumed the position of president of the Norwegian Defense Association 1978-81, where he was "strongly personally engaged in the work of the country's defense."[2] (Possibly a hint at some leadership position in the Stay-behind network).

In political life, he contented himself with modest positions in the Conservative Party, including as chair of the Conservative Party's Finance Committee 1966–73.
